Dear invisible condition...

Letter-writing has played an important part in the making of Hidden Stories. Participants in the project found that having a conversation with or about what they’ve kept hidden gave them a new perspective.
Some of the participant letters below appear in the book. Reading any of these letters may trigger certain thoughts or feelings, so make sure you’re in a safe space and are able to seek support if you need it.

If you have trouble reading text on images, see a plain text version of the letters here.

Dear invisible condition

Sounds like we’re not alone – phew. Let’s just be open and make space for compassion (for self and others).

Why not try it for yourself?

Writing a letter to or about something you keep hidden (a condition, an anxious thought etc) could help you to see it differently. It could even help you to find the words for how you’re feeling.

Don’t worry about what you’ll say. And you don’t need to name it. Just start with ‘Dear…’ then look within, be curious and see what comes next. You might just surprise yourself.

Taking care of ourselves (and each other)

Whether you live with anxiety or OCD, autism or chronic fatigue syndrome, navigating the world with an invisible condition can be difficult and lonely sometimes. If you or someone you know has been affected, you might find some useful suggestions on our Support page.
